Little Lies
Julie Mader-Meersman
Inspired by the idea of my portable box’s first life as a sales tool, “Little Lies” is a boxed set of booklets collaged together that each contain examples of actual lies I’ve been told in my life, from early childhood to recent adulthood. In some cases, the lies are directly personal, and in others they were broadcast to a large audience, including myself. Because the original box was likely used to transport examples of jewelry that could be purchased/consumed, thereby being non-authentic to a degree because of their life as examples and temptations, illusionistic images of cut gem stones (found dictionary drawings) are used as covers for the little lie booklets. Discreet imagery underneath the lies and on the backs of the booklets was chosen for symbolic reference to the context of the lies.
