I was fascinated by the simple mechanics of the container yet consumed with the completely different posture it took on when unfolded to its display position. From that experience I was inspired to expand the perceived scale of this box beyond its physical interior dimensions. I also wanted to contrast the weathered exterior with the cleanest materials and most universal of forms placed inside. The tension the home/overwhelming environment creates in its antiseptic condition as well as a foreshadowing of being crushed within begs viewer contemplation. The weight of the piece, while necessary for construction, presents any interactive party with a further contradiction to the openness that lies within this thin and blocky object.
