In a box
In a jewelry box of American culture
A relationship is officially declared with the purchase and bestowing of a symbolic ring.  Traveling back in cultural and personal history, the idea of a price-less wedding ring is a newer phenomenon that is quickly spreading to cultures outside the United States. Josephine Bound explores the artist’s personal family history while also addressing current societal trends.  A wedding ring may appear beautiful at a glance, but is it truly and does it bind two people together symbolically or actually?  If something is not beautiful in one definition of beauty, is it spoiled for all?  Just as when a person travels from one place to another there is hope and fear of what they will encounter, the promise of a relationship exemplified in physical form can delineate hope for the future and fear of what that future may hold.  Bound is a dichotomy of where a small piece of jewelry may lead.
